Plus, each summer KCPS hosts a Teacher Institute – three days packed full of guest speakers, breakout sessions, professional development and more. CIPD offers on-going professional development courses as well as supports individual teachers within the classroom. Curriculum coordinators for both elementary and secondary schools developed course studies specific to Missouri state standards, helping teachers meet state goals. Our Curriculum, Instruction & Professional Development team (CIPD) was developed to provide comprehensive instructional support for every teacher in every building. The program not only supports new teachers, but also promotes ongoing professional development for the KCPS educator family. A comprehensive training plan, the Induction Program is designed to provide additional support as a guide through the teaching journey.
School leadership and teaching leads manage professional learning at the team and building levels helping staff to focus on specific school goals and even mentor or coach one another.Īt KCPS, we developed a teacher mentoring plan to assist teachers new to their field or new to the Kansas City landscape. Sometimes, it’s nice to have a friendly face to ask questions, share ideas and brainstorm. Teachers who are new to their field, as well as new to the Kansas City landscape, are provided a mentor as a guide throughout their teaching journey. We understand teaching is a team effort and we don’t expect everyone to come into our district with all of the answers.
